The origins

The history of our (La) California dates back to around 1840 when the Via Aurelia had already been modernized and the only taverns to refresh travelers were in Cecina and Donoratico. Where California would have risen, there was still nothing only an intersection that from the main road, the via Aurelia, led to Bibbona with the new road that had been born in recent years thanks to the straightening of one of the many ditches that descend from the hills. In 1840 a certain Amerigo Gabbani arrived in the Municipality of Bibbona, his first job was that of employee of the nascent Maremma railway. Amerigo arrived in our town with all his relatives, some of whom invented Bettolieri and Osti. And this is how the history of California begins, after a few years with the newborn Italian state the first official registry records also arrived; the compilation of the first municipal registry in 1865 is particularly important for our history because for the first time the name of La California appears to indicate the place where in the meantime a tavern had risen, managed by a certain Attilio Fabbri, on Via Aurelia right at the intersection with the new road that still leads to Bibbona. which thanks to a beautiful recovery and restoration project has given new impetus to a historic restaurant, which has always offered sincere hospitality to travelers and guests of our territory.
